AccuQuilt
As an added membership benefit, members can use the guild's Accuquilt Studio. This is a high-quality machine that uses dies to cut accurate blocks and strips. Members can use the machine during our monthly Sew Days; by making an appointment to use it at the Bernina-Pfaff Store on N. Florida Ave. or by coming early to our monthly guild meetings. Please call Shirley Pope to make an appointment at Bernina-Pfaff or to let her know you want to cut fabric before our monthly meetings. Block of the Month Margaret Handlin, Chairperson
Members who are designated as Block of the Month Honoree can receive completed blocks of the honoree's choice from other club members. The honoree selects a pattern and fabrics, purchases the fabric, prepares packets containing the pattern, fabric and instructions, and distributes them to participating members at the business meetings. Or, the honoree may request that members use their own fabrics to make the selected pattern block. Block of the Month provides the perfect opportunity for each honoree to collect enough blocks to assemble a quilt top.
Circles
Circles are small groups that provide a greater participation in quilting activities, and give members a chance to get to know each other better. We have a few circles that are currently meeting:
The GG's meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays from 10 - 2 at various homes in the north end of town. Contact Ginny Berman (884-1878) for more information.
TNT meets from 7:00-9:30 every other Thursday evening. It has 10 members and is considered full. Contact Ginny Berman (884-1878) for more information.
Club Quilt
The club quilt is a joint project that all interested members work on. One lucky member becomes the winner of the club quilt when a drawing is held for all those members who worked on it.
Community Service
Each year, Quilters' Workshop sponsors a community service-oriented project. The purpose is to provide service to the needy and to establish good will in the community.
In previous years, we have made lap robes for elderly citizens in nursing homes, provided baby items for unwed mothers at Alpha House, purchased equipment and camperships for the local Girl Scouts, and made lap quilts for the Shriners. We have also raised thousands of dollars for the Shriners, The Spring (a shelter for abused women and children), and the Salvation Army.
Desperate Quilters / Sew Days
This group provides an opportunity for all guild members to come together once a month to cut, sew, lay out, baste, or quilt their quilts or just come to visit and help others with their quilt projects. Details are published in the newsletter.
Dinners
Special themed dinners are planned for our December and June meetings.
Education/Workshops
To enhance the quilting skills of our members, we provide workshops taught by well-known local and national teachers. These workshops provide an excellent means for our members to stay abreast of all new quilting styles, tips, techniques and shortcuts. We try to alternate between traditional and contemporary teachers and techniques.
Newsletter
The guild's newsletter is distributed monthly from September through June. It is mailed to arrive approximately one week before our meeting. The newsletter includes news of interest pertaining to club business and activities. It's primary purpose is to keep members abreast of all club happenings.
Quilt Show
Every other year, Quilters' Workshop sponsors a quilt show to display the quilts most recently made by our members. The Quilt Show acquaints the general public with quilts and the wonderful world of quilting. Our shows have been very well received in the past, and are a good way to show off our members' talents and creativity in the world of quilting.
Retreat
Our annual retreat is held at Mainsail Village in Tampa. We always have lots of fun with games, prizes, food, demonstrations, talking & laughing, and, oh yes, lots of time to quilt!
Special Blocks
Twice a year we have drawings for special blocks made by club members. The pattern and fabric for these blocks are selected by the Special Blocks Chair, who prepares and distributes kits to members. When the blocks are completed, a drawing is held only for those members who made blocks.
Special Events and Trips
We occasionally take group trips throughout the state of Florida to attend shows sponsored by other clubs. These trips allow us the opportunity to fellowship with each other, meet quilters from other clubs, and learn what others are doing.
